Two Science Guys Talking

This post refers to or was inspired by this.
John Horgan & George Johnson, two respected science writers, meet every Saturday (give or take) on bloggingheads.tv to talk about the latest news & gossip in the science world.

A measure of the kind of geek I am is that I've become a regular viewer of these two guys...

I'm posting a link to this particular diavlog (from a few weeks ago) because it's one of the most interesting I've watched yet.

And I wanted to keep track of this bit where they talk about the latest in evolutionairy theory. Absolutely riveting stuff... Well, to me.

But then, one might want to skip directly to this juicy bit where they discuss the apparent tautological nature of evolutionairy explanations... Shhh! Don't tell the creationists. ;)

Oh! And then there's this amusing and very intriguing bit where they discuss a study that seems to show that average IQs have risen by 30 points (!) in the last hundred years.

Like I said... a measure of the kind of geek I am.

Émilie du Chatelêt

This post refers to or was inspired by this.
It's stories like this that got me interested in science as a kid.

From the truly delightful PBS/NOVA edu-doc, Einstein's Big Idea.

A segment on Émilie du Chatelêt, one of the great minds of the Enlightenment... the first to make a chink in Newton's armor... and a woman a few centuries ahead of her time.
